Synopsis:

Christmas in New Bedford is not how it should be. Grace (Kathryn Greenwood "Whose Line Is It Anyway?") and her mother have gone to Europe to recover her husband's belongings when war breaks out and they are stranded. At home, sister-in-law Toppy is in a tizzy because she is directing the town pageant, but the script is a flop. Nephew Hub, who is planning on becoming a priest, returns from schools holidays and brings a surprise with him - a girlfriend who is a Jewish refugee.

Our library only carries portions of the first and second volumes. I viewed it out of sequence, so I had to retrack and check them out in order. As a published writer I find the plot exciting and intriguing. The unfortunate death of the father and the endurance of Honey kept my keen interest. The deep pathos that each character pulled from my mind as each actor presented the character was heart wrenching. Honey grabbed at my heartstrings in her heartbreak after heartbreak, but her endurance to get her family back together again. Time after time I ground my teeth at prudish, Victorian May Bailey, but then every so often an ever so slight hint of humanity flickered through her scheming facade. Excellent acting on her part.The boys tugged at my emotions with every incident. Their male egos raised their heads and shouted independence. More than once I chided Grace ,as Honey did,"tell you mother to get lost and strike out on your own which she did eventually to work at the radio station. The boys quickly took to Max and had complete confidence in him. One scene that stood out as superb was when Max kissed Honey quickly for the first time. She showed her acceptance by kissing him right back. That was a good piece of writing. Probably a very difficult film to produce, but the cinematography was so well done that the entire production came off with ease and precision. I was born during the depression, and only experienced hardships through my loving parents who survived that period of economic difficulties by their endurance and wit. We never went hungry.

It was good---but average at the same time.Why I rated it with 4 stars was because something happened so fast.You finish the fifth season and u are upset because Grace should have forgiven Van, but she didn't.So now when u start the Christmas movie u are heartbroken cause you just find out Grace's husband, Van, has died in the war.But it does have a good plot,but I still think grace should have forgiven Van---and he should'nt have died at all.But over all it was good
